Tactica is a Melbourne based brand which designs and makes a range of tools, shipping internationally.

Tactica products are ergonomic and aesthetic tools designed for everyday adventures. Their products are minimal in approach, stripping back unnecessary elements and letting the core design and functional purpose shine through. Tactica products have been designed to work for everyday use and on outdoor adventures. Their use of composite materials allows for high performance at a fraction of the weight.

The branding and packaging for Tactica was designed to be an effortless extension of the product. The wordmark is inspired by hexagonal drill bits used in the products, the C deriving from a hexagon. A simple stroke approach was used to work in combination with the use of measurement and sun dial lines on products. A fox was chosen as a subtle mascot for the brand, symbolising independence, protection, good luck and beauty, the fox adds an approachable touch.

The packaging for the products follows the brands minimal and functional principles. Colour is used in the packaging to highlight the products form and aesthetic with areas split horizontally in two. This split approach emphasises pairs coming together, form and function as well as outdoor and everyday. This simple graphic device is used throughout the brand in combination with clean, sturdy and functional typography.

Project role

I was the designer on this project working with the Creative Director to develop the brand elements and custom wordmark. I worked on the packaging, including the concept exploration as well as the final art and production. I designed and managed the implementation of the website and helped with the art direction for the range of products.
